Installation Guide

Installation Guide

Both the NEC-20 and NEC-2000 install inline between your pump outlet and filter inlet using the hardware supplied in the box. Installation requirements vary depending on your pool type — see the guidance below for your specific setup.

If you have any questions during installation, contact our team — we're happy to help.

Before You Start

  • Turn off your pool pump and isolate power before beginning
  • Identify your pump outlet and filter inlet — the Claritech unit installs between these two points
  • Check your pipe diameter matches the supplied adapters (see specs below)
  • Have a timer switch ready — a dedicated timer is strongly recommended to control the unit's runtime independently of the pump

NEC-20 Installation (Above-Ground Pools)

The NEC-20 is fully DIY-friendly for above-ground pool installations. All connectors and adapters are included in the box — no additional plumbing or tools required. Most customers complete installation in under an hour.

What's in the Box

  • 1x NEC-20 unit (electrodes pre-installed)
  • 2x 32/38mm hose adapters
  • 1x Threaded adapter (1½" / 1" with supplied adaptor)
  • 1x Timer Switch
  • 1x Test Kit

Step-by-Step

  1. Turn off the pump and isolate power at the switchboard.
  2. Select your installation point — between the pump outlet and the filter inlet. The unit can be installed in either flow direction.
  3. Cut the hose at the chosen installation point and attach the 32/38mm hose adapters to each end of the NEC-20.
  4. Secure the connections using the supplied hose clamps. Ensure fittings are tight and leak-free.
  5. Connect the power cable to the timer switch, then to a weatherproof power socket fused by a circuit interrupter (RCD). Do not plug directly into an unfused socket.
  6. Set the timer to match your pump's run cycle. The NEC-20 should only operate when water is actively flowing through it.
  7. Turn on the pump and check for leaks at all connection points.
  8. Set the Current dial to your starting position (refer to the manual for recommended starting settings based on pool volume).
  9. Test your water after 24–48 hours using the included copper ion test kit. Target range: 0.3–1.0 mg/L.

NEC-20 Installation (Spas & Hot Tubs)

For spa installations, professional installation by a qualified spa or pool technician is recommended. Spa plumbing configurations vary significantly between manufacturers and models, and a technician will ensure the unit is correctly integrated with your existing system.

NEC-2000 Installation (In-Ground Pools)

Professional installation by a qualified pool installer is strongly recommended for the NEC-2000. Depending on your existing pipework, additional piping may be required. Professional installation is also required to maintain your warranty.

What's in the Box

  • 1x NEC-2000 unit (electrodes pre-installed)
  • 1x Installation hardware kit (2" BSP fittings, threaded nipple adaptor for 1" connections)
  • 1x Timer Switch
  • 1x Test Kit

Step-by-Step (for reference)

  1. Turn off the pump and isolate power at the switchboard.
  2. Select your installation point — strongly recommended between the pump and the filter. The unit can be plumbed in either flow direction (inlet and outlet are interchangeable).
  3. Connect the 2" BSP fittings to the inlet and outlet of the NEC-2000. Use the supplied threaded nipple adaptor if your pipework is 1".
  4. Secure all connections and check for correct alignment. Ensure no conductive contact between cathode and anode components of the electrode cartridge.
  5. Connect the NEC-2000 power cable to a dedicated timer switch, then to a weatherproof power socket fused by a circuit interrupter (RCD).
  6. Connect the pump to a separate timer on its own power socket — also fused by a circuit interrupter.
  7. Set both timers so the NEC-2000 only runs while the pump is active. The electrode must never operate without water flowing.
  8. Turn on the pump and check all connections for leaks.
  9. Set the Current BCD switch (1–9, in 0.16A steps up to max. 1.5A) and the Time BCD switch (1 = 0.5 hrs, 8 = 4.0 hrs, 9 = continuous) based on your pool volume and water conductivity.
  10. Test your water after 24–48 hours. Target copper ion range: 0.7–1.0 mg/L. Adjust Current and Time settings as needed.

Electrical Safety

  • Both units must be connected via a circuit interrupter (RCD/GFCI) — this is a safety requirement, not optional
  • Use weatherproof outdoor-rated power sockets only
  • The electrode must only operate when the filter pump is active and water is being circulated
  • Never immerse the control head in water during electrode cleaning

Ongoing Maintenance

  • Check copper ion levels regularly using the included 3-chamber pool tester
  • Clean electrodes periodically by removing and soaking in an acid detergent bath — do not allow liquid to contact the control head
  • Replace electrodes when the error light illuminates, or approximately every 2–5 years depending on usage
  • NEC-2000 electrode replacement requires removing 6x M8 Torx screws (or M6 Allen key) to lift the control head, then detaching the electrode from the lid using 2x M6 brass nuts
