The NEC-20 operates at just 5 watts. The NEC-2000 operates at a maximum of 36 watts. Both units only draw power while your pool or spa pump is actively running. The included timer switch lets you match the unit's operating hours precisely to your pump cycle, so there's zero wasted energy.

Compare that to salt chlorinators (typically 100–300W), UV systems, or chemical dosing pumps — the Claritech system is one of the lowest-energy sanitisation options available for residential pools. Over a full NZ summer season, the difference in running costs is significant.

Both units are rated IP54 for outdoor use and operate on standard 110–240V supply — no special wiring or electrician required.

Which system do I need?

• NEC-20 — above-ground pools and spas up to 20,000 litres
• NEC-2000 — in-ground pools up to 60,000 litres

How is it installed?

Both units install inline with your existing pool or spa pump — no plumber required. The NEC-2000 connects via 2-inch BSP threaded fittings (or 1-inch with the supplied threaded nipple adaptor); the NEC-20 uses included 32/38mm hose adapters and a threaded adapter. All hardware is included in the box.

Place the unit between the pump and the filter. Water passes through the ionisation chamber on every pump cycle, continuously maintaining ion levels. A dedicated timer is recommended to schedule the NEC-2000's runtime independently of the pump — this is not included but is strongly recommended.

Does it work with my existing pH levels?

No pH adjustment is required. The NEC-2000 operates effectively across a pH range of 6.5–9.5, consistent with the German Drinking Water Directive testing range. This covers virtually all residential pool conditions.

If replacing a chlorinator or salt cell, the Claritech unit fits into the same inline position using the supplied adapters.

Ionisation is the only purification method that is simultaneously non-toxic, non-corrosive to pipes and fittings, not temperature-dependent, not pH-dependent, produces no lime scale, has no high energy consumption, and leaves no harmful chemical residue.

Backwash water: Because Claritech-purified water contains no chlorine, salt, or chemical residues, backwash water is safe to discharge onto lawns and garden beds. The copper ion level in correctly maintained pool water sits between 0.3–1.0 mg/L — well within safe limits for garden irrigation and consistent with NZ drinking water standards for copper. Unlike chlorinated or salt pool backwash, Claritech backwash water won't bleach grass, damage soil biology, or harm aquatic ecosystems if it reaches stormwater.
